General Manager Campus The Hague

International hospitality manager with educational experience

Responsible for to secure, develop and innovate the practical educationas ‘unique selling point’ (USP) of Hotelschool The Hague and alignment and integration of practical and theory next to intensifying contacts with the industry for the practical’s (F&B). Hotelmanagement (and practical education) is one of the core activities of Hotelschool The Hague. The internal and  external positioning of the practical education and facilities (including making them economic viable) of Campus The Hague by, amongst others, offering innovative seminars, congresses, workshops for students, faculty and industry, including the optimal use of all outlets-, hotel- en banqueting facilities. Acting as director of Campus The Hague, and as such being responsible for the quality of the daily operations, behaviour, culture and identity of and at Campus The Hague next to maintaining contacts with the local stakeholders.

Result areas

Leadership
Is in charge of the Campus The Hague by ensuring the right/optimal quality of the daily operations, to act as a first contact person for students and employees, solve bottlenecks, thrive for constant quality improvement and the proper student behaviour in cooperation with The Hague. Responsible for the culture and hospitality of Campus The Hague by further advancing student- and guest focus and, if necessary, by correcting students and employees. The F&B Manager reports to the General Manager Campus Amsterdam and the RD Manager reports to the General Manager The Hague, pending on the further development of the organisational structure. Ensures revenue and profitability and at the same time student satisfaction, guest satisfaction and employee satisfaction. Is recognisable as the leader of Campus The Hague and acts as a host by events like open days, selection days, graduations, banqueting activities and congresses and maintains relations with the local stakeholders (visibility of Campus The Hague in the city of The Hague) in cooperation and alignment with the President Board of Directors.

Network
Ensures the alignment with the hospitality industry and represents the hotelschool in local, (and if necessary and agreement in national and international hospitality forums, amongst others the ‘Koninklijke Horeca Nederland’). Maintains business relations with alumni, hospitality organisations, the municipality of The Hague etc. Starts partnerships with for example La Place, suppliers and initiates an active sponsor policy in cooperation with the strategic marketing and communication department and Campus Amsterdam. Introduces (international) guest speakers to the hotelschool. The General Manager is the first person of contact for student associations and all events at Campus The Hague.

Banquet/Sales
Makes the outlets- and hotel facilities of Hotelschool The Hague well known. Ensures the optimal promotion, within the possibilities, and sales of all outlets and banqueting. Externally offers innovative activities which show the knowledge and expertise of Hotelschool The Hague, like for example tastings and master classes in the field of F&B but also in sustainability and hotelmanagement. Acquires events from his/her network in the field of sustainability, F&B and Hotelmanagement to Campus The Hague.

 

Practical Education
The General Manager Campus The Hague ensures innovative practical education that directly follows the developments and trends in hospitality (possible from a specific expertise team).The General Manager is responsible for quality and the quality assurance system of all hotel(practical) parts. Optimal balance between theory and practical application and alignment with theory and practical education (by for example participating in core teams and expertise teams and in the daily operations). Entrepreneurial way of learning and stimulates ‘’out of the box’’ thinking. The General Manager frequently meets with the F&B and RD Managers and the Educational Managers in order to ensure the alignment between theoretical and practical education. Furthermore the General Manager ensures that the instructors frequently participate in the three different phases by fieldtrips and workshops that are organized in cooperation with lecturers.

 

 

Finance

The General Manager composes a long term and annual plan and budget, is responsible for the financial return (kpi’s for occupancy rates, food costs, sales volume, revenue, guest-, employee- and student satisfaction) and budget control and frequently reports to the Board of Directors. Creates proposals for long term investments. Makes practical education of Hotelschool The Hague well known and commercial and generates income for the school. Starting partnerships, by working together, sharing knowledge with external relations, and sponsoring in money or products /services.

 

Professionalising
Managing or participating in (long term) projects in order to improve the hotel facilities, the practical education and parts of it. Keeping up to date with developments in the local, national and international hospitality, practical education and the curriculum of Hotelschool The Hague. Keeping the knowledge and expertise up to date of faculty and managers specialized in hotelmanagement. Working pro-actively and continuously on development and further improvement of the educational organization. Maintaining a local, national and international network in close cooperation with the strategic marketing and communication department and account management.

 

Profile

  • Education at least at bachelor level, preferably hotelmanagement;
  • More than 10 years professional work experience in the international hospitality at higher management level;
  • Is a driven and experienced (international) hospitality manager with passion for hotelmanagement;
  • Is up to date with trends, especially food, sustainability and design in hospitality;
  • Is a excellent host;
  • Has been proven to be successful with a track record in innovations in hospitality;
  • Is successful in banquet/sales;
  • Has international work experience;
  • Passion for development and coaching of young professionals in hospitality;
  • Has extensive leadership experience and excellent social skills;
  • Is an excellent people manager, with a coaching style of leadership;
  • Is flexible, energetic and has humour;
  • Has excellent knowledge and skills in the English and Dutch language (at minimal C1 level) both verbal and in writing;
  • Has a large network in the local, national and international hospitality and can start business relations and partnerships;
  • Has affinity with education, and is commercial driven (real-life-situation in practical education and profitability of the activities).

 

 

Remuneration
Hotelschool The Hague offers a gross annual compensation in the range of € 67,000 and
€ 75,000 (salary scale 13 of the cao-hbo 2012-2013), based on full time employment and depending on your professional experience and qualifications. In addition, Hotelschool The Hague offers an excellent package of expat services and fringe benefits, such as 53 days of leave with retention of salary per year, a retirement pension through ABP, excellent opportunities for further education and a possibility to participate in collective (health) insurance.

The position General Manager Campus The Hague is a position for 0.8 fte, in combination with an educational position for 0.2 fte. Fulltime availability is desired.
