Every faculty member works under the guidance of one Department Head, based upon their area of expertise. The Department Head reports to the Dean of Faculty and together with the Dean, the Department Heads along with the Program director are responsible for the academic program of the school. He/she is responsible for affairs regarding the (members of his/her) Faculty group, which consists of approximately 20 people.

 

The Department Head leads the content of his/her discipline as well as of all educators within their discipline, including coaching and professional development plans. The Department Head will be supported by the Dean of Faculty, the Human Resource department and the Finance & Control department.

 


Curriculum
The curriculum at Hotelschool The Hague is delivered in a unique competency approach. Courses are integrated using modern methods of practical application and active learning including blended learning, business simulations and case studies, enhancing the students' understanding of each discipline as it is used in real world scenarios.

 

Responsibilities as Department Head
The Department Head has an outstanding academic record. He/she has strong commitment to advancement and innovation of the knowledge area, the curriculum and to the advancement of team members.

 

You will be:

  • leading a faculty team of individual lecturers in a specific knowledge area;
  • responsible for allocating of faculty team resources and education expenses; 
  • motivated by, and skilled in, the development of a self directing team;
  • organized and efficient in the use of your own time and others;
  • generating active relationships, building strong functional partnering across a range of internal and external professionals, including faculty, students, industry representatives, and senior leadership;
  • responsible for the quality of learning and dependable delivery of the education and innovation of educational topics and didactics within the knowledge area;
  • performance committed, with a clear focus on the measurable delivery of the learning promised in the areas of Professional development, contemporary Management skills, and Enterprise Leadership;
  • bringing strategic teamwork in updating and renewing curriculum and learning methods;

Profile
As a lecturer you have or are:

  • a PhD in a hospitality related discipline or a Master degree with a major in Management Strategy or equivalent and several years of international hospitality related working experience;
  • experience in the hospitality industry is preferably with experience in making or participating in strategic decision processes;
  • several years of teaching experience or proven affinity with teaching;
  • knowledge of finance, Information Management, business intelligence and predictive analysis and/or environmental scanning;
  • analytical and conceptual skills and an excellent command of the English language both spoken and written C1;

Hotelschool The Hague offers a salary in the range of € 67,000 and € 75,000 gross per year, depending on your professional experience and qualifications. The contract is annual.   • a Master degree in a hospitality related discipline or a Master degree with a major in Operations Management and several years of international hospitality related working experience;
  • several years of teaching experience or proven affinity with teaching;
  • considerable experience at management level in Operations improvement approaches like Six Sigma, Lean Synchronization or Process Architecture, and in a position responsible for day-to-day operations;
  • experience with concept development;
  • analytical and conceptual skills and an excellent command of the English language both spoken and written C1;

Strategic Marketing & Communication Department
The Strategic Marketing & Communication Department is responsible for marketing and positioning, branding, internal and external communication, including public relations and marketing events for Hotelschool The Hague.

As July/August 2015, we can offer you an internship at the Strategic Marketing and Communication Department for a period of at least 5 months. 

The trainee will be assigned independent tasks and will be supervised by one of the Strategic Marketing & Communication staff members. The trainee will get the opportunity to further develop him-/herself and to participate in an enthusiastic and professional team of young people. A lot of room for independency is offered.

 

Tasks will include but not necessarily be limited to:

  • Co-develop mailings, press releases and dealing with requests for information;
  • Design the digital student & staff news;
  • Making scripts for international fairs and visits of external guest (e.g. ministers, General Managers of international hotel chains);
  • House style check;
  • Quality care (satisfaction surveys/evaluations);
  • Help organizing (large-scale) events; both internal and public events;
  • Help executing research (competition/marketing data);
  • Updating the website;
  • Executing the production of brochures and flyers;
  • All daily tasks.

 

Requirements:
You have/are

  • A 2nd of 3rd year HBO student of Marketing/Communication or Business related studies;
  • A hands-on mentality and a great eye for detail;
  • Inquisitive, independent, positive and ambitious;
  • A proactive, initiative and service-minded attitude;
  • An excellent command of Dutch and English, both written and oral;
  • A representative and business-like appearance in conformity with Hotelschool The Hague guidelines;
  • Excellent computer skills such as Excel, Power Point, etc.;
