Hendrik Jan Roel

Roel is serving as a member of Hotelschool The Hague’s Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Audit Committee.

Roel is serving as a member of Hotelschool The Hague’s Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Audit Committee. Roel was Chief Financial Officer and Executive Board Member at citizenM, where he was responsible for finance, operations, human resources and data. As of 1 October 2025, he has taken on the role of interim Chief Financial Officer at Royal FloraHolland, supporting the cooperative’s strategic implementation during a leadership transition. Prior to citizenM, Roel spent 22 years at Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize N.V., where he most recently (since 2014) served as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President of Albert Heijn, Etos and Gall & Gall.
Roel brings over 25 years of international financial experience and a strong leadership track record. In 2019, he received the Leadership in Finance award, a well-recognised honour in the Dutch finance community. Roel is a member of the Board of Trustees and the Audit Committee of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, as well as being a board member of the Ahold Delhaize Art Foundation. He is also Chairman of the Supervisory Board of GS1 Nederland B.V., a non-profit organisation that develops international uniform standards for the identification, capture and sharing of data.
