Hotelschool The Hague would like to congratulate Anna Bosten and Sterre Bisschop with winning the International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF) 2015: Student Challenge. Our students competed with Cornell University and EHL. We are so proud!

This week students Anna Bosten and Sterre Bisschop of Hotelschool The Hague won the annual Student Challenge at the International Hotel Investment Forum (IHIF). The IHIF is the largest Hotel Investment conference in the world hosting most of the world's Hotel chains CEO's and presidents. Students from a few International Hotel Schools such as Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, Cornell Hotel School and Hotelschool The Hague were invited to participate in the Student Challenge of the IHIF, which took place from 2 - 4 March at the InterContinental Hotel Berlin.

The two students presented their winning idea, based on an new online platform, amongst the other contestants from EHL and Cornell. Anna Bosten: “We received so many good reactions and many people are interested in our idea. It was an amazing experience to participate in this challenge. We met so many people. Even though we are students, these industry leaders took the time to meet us and talk to us.”

For the Student Challenge the International Hotel Investment Council worked out a case study for the participating schools to work on. This year the theme of the case study was: How can Hotels compete/participate with concepts such as Airbnb, Homeaway etc. The case study required various skills such as innovative and out of the box thinking, creativity and generation marketing. Held at the Intercontinental Berlin, the IHIF boasts a wide variety of seminars, workshops and speakers from around the world. Most of the speakers are renowned International executives within the Hospitality Industry.

Quote from Mr. Michiel Laterveer who was coaching Sterre and Anna throughout the Student Challenge: ‘We are extremely proud and grateful for the great performance of Anna & Sterre. We started out this competition internally with over 60 students working on creating innovative solutions. This internal competition resulted in 13 teams pitching their idea. Students, coaches & professors voted on the best idea and pitch, which eventually represented Hotelschool The Hague at IHIF in Berlin. The best part of winning this competition are the comments of the jury when they announced the winner: “Hotelschool The Hague is the clear winner, they had the best and most rounded of solution, worked out into detail. They presented their solution in a powerful and convincing pitch. Also, they received the loudest applause from the audience. Next to that they had a perfect report, one of the best we have seen’’.
