Holland Scholarship

The Holland Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch Research Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences. The scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their Bachelor's or Master's in The Netherlands. EEA consists of the EU countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Nationals of Switzerland and Suriname are also excluded from this scholarship programme.

Scholarship amount
The scholarship amounts to a one-time payment of €5,000, which you will receive during the first year of your studies. Hotelschool The Hague has 5 Holland Scholarships available for our Bachelor programme students applying during the Academic Year 2021-2022. 

Application criteria
In order to be considered for the Holland Scholarship you need to have applied for and have been accepted in the bachelor degree programme of Hotelschool The Hague, University of Applied Sciences. You will receive an individual invitation to apply to the Holland Scholarship via the Admissions Office. 

The applicant must:

  • Have a non-EEA nationality, and be required to pay the institutional fee
  • Have never previously studied at an higher educational institution in the Netherlands
  • Meet the admission requirements of the Bachelor programme at Hotelschool The Hague, and have been accepted to the abovementioned programme upon successful participation in their selection procedure before 1 May 2022. 

Selection criteria
Hotelschool The Hague embraces further diversity and internationalisation of our community. Furthermore, we aim to prepare our students for a global and diverse society and workplace. Only the most talented students according to Hotelschool The Hague are eligible for selection. The selection of the candidates is based on ranking.

For the Holland Scholarship Programme application 3 documents are required:

  • Proof of excellence/ GPA       
    Excellence in previous education is proven, if the grade point average achieved is at least the equivalent of the Dutch grade of 8.0 on the Dutch grading scale 1 – 10. The Selection Committee of Hotelschool The Hague will decide on the local grade equivalents for the Dutch grade of 8.0 using the grade information included in the NUFFIC country modules.
  • Reference letter
    Should you have obtained working experience in the hospitality industry, or a related field, please submit a reference letter stating the function you have hold, and the period during which you have hold this particular position.
  • Financial Statement 
    We kindly ask you to submit a Financial Statement, by means of which you show us how you are planning on financing the first year of your studies at the Hotelschool The Hague. A standard format is available, and will be send along with the invitation to apply to the Holland Scholarship. 

Assessment procedure
The applicants will be assessed initially by the selection committee of Hotelschool The Hague. The applicants will be ranked based on the proof of excellence, and the quality of their reference letter.

Orange Tulip Scholarship

The Orange Tulip Scholarship is fully sponsored and awarded by Hotelschool The Hague and administered by Nuffic NESO South Africa. This scholarship is for potential students, holding the South African nationality or for residents of South Africa who are not eligible for the EEA tuition fee. There are two scholarships available for the students applying in the academic year 2020-2021.

Scholarship amount
Hotelschool The Hague offers two Orange Tulip Scholarships. Each scholarship consists of 50% of the tuition fee waiver during four years of the Bachelor Programme at Hotelschool The Hague. Therefore, the equal amount of €6,471.5 will be waivered each year, adding up to €25,886.

Application criteria
As a successful candidate of the Orange Tulip Scholarship starting in August 2020 or February 2021, you need to have applied to and have been accepted for the Bachelor Programme at Hotelschool The Hague. Each potential candidate will receive an individual invitation to apply for the Orange Tulip Scholarship via the Admissions Office. 

The applicant must:

  • Have a non-EEA nationality, be a resident of South Africa and is not eligible for the EEA tuition fee / or have the South African nationality.
  • Not have studied previously at a higher educational institution in The Netherlands.
  • Meet the admission requirements of the Bachelor Programme at Hotelschool The Hague, and have been accepted to the abovementioned programme upon successful participation in the selection procedure before 1 April 2020. 

Selection criteria
Hotelschool The Hague is a global community and values diversity as an enrichment to our education, research and our contribution to the international hospitality industry and society. Each year, only the most talented students are invited and selected to be part of our Hotelschool The Hague community. In addition to being accepted to our Bachelor Programme, you also need to submit additional documents (see below) in order to apply for the Orange Tulip Scholarship:

  • Reference letter
  • Should you have obtained working experience in the hospitality industry, or any related field, please submit a reference letter stating the function you have hold, and the period during which you have hold this particular position.
  • Financial statement
    We kindly ask you to submit a Financial Statement, by means of which you show us how you are planning on financing the first year of your studies at the Hotelschool The Hague. A standard format is available, and will be send along with the invitation to apply to the Orange Tulip Scholarship.

Arnoud Van Delft Scholarship

This scholarship is dedicated to the founder of the IFT programme Arnoud van Delft. The Arnoud van Delft scholarship will be introduced as of the academic year 2021‑2022 for the best IFT talent and will be awarded annually. The selected IFT student will get a credit for the costs for the summer course of € 2900.

Application criteria
To be eligible for the Arnoud Van Delft Scholarship, the following criteria must be met: 

  • Have never previously studied at a higher educational institution in The Netherlands
  • Have been accepted to the IFT programme upon successful participation in the selection procedure before 14 May 2022 with an overall score higher than 90&.
  • Meet the admission requirements of the Bachelor programme at Hotelschool The Hague, and have been accepted to the abovementioned programme upon successful participation in their selection procedure before 1 May 2020. 
  • Hand in a separate application with the necessary documents for the AvD Scholarship before 23 May 2022 to Ms. Veth- Barchewitz (I.Veth@hotelschol.nl).

Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means the applicant is not eligible for this scholarship.

Number of Scholarship

Per academic year, one AvD Scholarship will be awarded to the best IFT talent, which was elected by the AvD Scholarship Selection Committee.

Amount of the Scholarship:

The AvD Scholarship (one-time 2900 € as a credit at Hotelschool The Hague for your further tuition fee) is only granted to the elected student after successfully completing/ passing the summer course in the same year and being admitted as student to the Bachelor programme.  

As the grant is not automatically a full scholarship, it may be necessary to find additional funding to be able to finance your studies and stay completely.

Application Process
The applicant needs to hand four additional documents to Ms. Veth- Barchewitz, before 23 May (23:59 CET) via mail (i.veth@hotelschool.nl)

Motivation letter

A motivation letter (max. 1x A4) with arguments for the application for the AvD Scholarship and description of the intercultural and communication skills of the candidate in detail.

Proof of academic excellence/ GPA:     
Excellence in previous education is proven if the grade point average achieved is at least the equivalent of the Dutch grade of 8.0 on the Dutch grading scale 1 – 10.

The AvD Scholarship Selection Committee of Hotelschool The Hague will decide on the local grade equivalents for the Dutch grade of 8.0 using the grade information included in the NUFFIC country modules.

Proof of that should be handed in from secondary school and the latest pre-education.

Next to that, an official document issued by the previous education that proves the applicant is among the top of the graduating class (such as a statement signed and stamped by the previous education or a reference letter or a class ranking certificate, etc.). This applies to the latest pre-education.

Reference letter from previous employer:
An official recommendation letter from a former employer needs to be added to the application, in which the applicants’ exceptional performance/experience needs to be proven.

Financial Statement 
We kindly ask the applicant to submit a Financial Statement, by means of which he/she shows how he/she is planning on financing the first year of your studies at the Hotelschool The Hague (full tuition fee of 3500 € after summer course). A standard format is available and will be sent along with the invitation to apply to the AvD Scholarship.

Selection Criteria & Process

Eligible candidates are selected for the AvD Scholarship on the basis of the following criteria:

An additional interview with members of the IFT Scholarship Selection Committee could be part of the selection procedure.

How to apply?

You can apply for the Holland Scholarship at Hotelschool The Hague once you have been accepted to our Bachelor Programme. Upon your acceptance, you will automatically be invited to apply for the scholarship.

The deadline for application for the Scholarship is 1 May 2020. Therefore, we would like to advise you to apply for an early selection day, so the result of the selection day is presented to you before 1 May 2020.
